Programs
Congregation Brith Sholem's religious school is open to all children in
our community. Taught by volunteers, the school aims to build a Jewish
identity and increase involvement in its students by teaching Hebrew
and
Judaic studies (focussing on topics of Jewish history and culture,
study,
worship, and other aspects of living a Jewish life). During the
2004-2005
school year, there are five team-taught multi-age classes that meet
from
9:00 to 11:30 on most Sunday mornings from September through May.
Tuition
is extremely reasonable; the school relies on participation by parents
and is also supported by donations to Brith Sholem's Children's
Education
Fund. For more information, contact Frances Caplan at teamcaplan@gmail.com.
Adult
Education
A new adult education program is developed each year in response to
congregational
needs and desires. Specific offerings may include b'nai mitzvah
classes,
Hebrew classes, Torah study, and individual sessions on topics such as
mitzvot, Reform Judaism, responses to the Holocaust, etc.
Social
Action
Congregation Brith Sholem is a member of Ogden's Interfaith Works, a
consortium
of area houses of worship whose mission statement is, "Honoring our
diversity,
we seek to live out a common voice in response to human suffering."
Interfaith
Works projects have included raising funds for the Northern Utah Food
Cooperative,
a clothing drive for families of a local elementary school, annual
walk-a-thons,
and a book drive to obtain books for Head Start children. Other
charitable
causes, community action, and informational meetings are undertaken by
the group throughout the year. Although Brith Sholem is a small
congregation,
we are always well represented in Interfaith Works' worthwhile efforts.
